Mr. Michael Robert Dennis passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Stony Plain early Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the age of 68 years.
Born in Montreal to Reagh L. and Rose-Marie (Barnes) Dennis, he moved with his family to Ottawa when he was 13 together with his younger brothers Paul and Peter. He attended Ottawa Technical School, graduating at grade 12. He was a member of the school band, playing the trombone, as well as serving for several years as a member of the Governor General’s Footguard band. Michael was an active member of the Anglican Cathedral Church Boys and Mens’ choir for 10 years. At 16 years old, he met up with the love of his life Sharon Bourgeous, they later married and shared a 27 year journey before sadly divorcing. Mike and Sharon founded Parkland Kennels West in Stony Plain, a successful kennel offering quality care and related services to pets in their community and beyond. His collegial, fair, and honest style of leadership resulted in him building a team of loyal employees, many of them remaining on his staff for many years.
Mike’s other passion was for motorcycles, he and his biking buddies enjoyed many hours riding here and in B.C. His Thursday Wing Night buddies will also miss him. Mike was a kind man who chose to live simply – his motto was “love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” As his health issues (with balance and stamina, and some lingering effects of a major stroke in 2012) began to impact his daily life, Mike had to make some end of life decisions concerning the passing along of his “fulfilled dream”. Because his wish was that Parkland Kennels West survive his passing, he decided to pass it along to one of his loyal and lifelong employees, Tara Attwood, who will continue to offer the services of the Kennel in the community and beyond.
He is survived by his mom Rose Marie; brothers Paul (Rhonda) and Peter (Brenda); nephews Greg and Spencer; all of Halifax, and niece Rachel (Craig) Guthrie in Seattle, WA; many cousins and his special friends Ronald and Nicci Drury of Spruce Grove, AB. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by us all.
Michael was predeceased by his dad in 2011.
Cremation has taken place. Many of his friends and his family gathered together Sunday, March 8, 2020 to celebrate the life and legacy of Michael. May his spirit rest in peace, and may its dwelling place be in the paradise of God.
