Larry loved nature. He spent his life seeking out the calm of the outdoors, camping and hiking and returning to his favourite spots again and again. He loved technology; he was an enthusiastic early adopter of home computers, the internet, and cell phones. He loved gardening and eating the (literal and figurative) fruits of his labour. He loved teaching, coming to it as a career later in life and embracing its challenges and opportunities with vigor. But perhaps most of all he loved his wife Laura. They met at 16, married at 18, and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this summer. Together, Larry and Laura raised three daughters: Jody (Jeremy), Erin (Philip), and Kate (Elise). He is also survived by their grandchildren Ethan, Ash, Davin, and Linnea; his mother Audrey; and his brothers and sisters in law, extended family, and friends. Amidst our grief, his family takes a measure of solace that he passed away in nature, in a spot he had recently referred to as his happy place.
A celebration of Larry’s life will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we know Larry would have appreciated donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Edmonton Humane Society. The Spruce Grove GSA Society was also very important to him and contributions to it would have been meaningful for him.
