On June 24th John Adam died peacefully at the age of 93. He was blessed to spend the prior evening with his wife Ruth, his granddaughter Laura and her family thoroughly enjoying a concert in which two of his great- granddaughters performed.
John Adam was born to Jacob and Katherine Adam in Skolo, Poland, and was baptised on January 27, 1924. John’s father died when he was four and his mother brought him, his brother Phil and his sister Emma to Canada. He was blessed to become part of a much larger extended family when his mother married Henry Goertz in 1932.
John confirmed his baptismal faith at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Stony Plain on April 2, 1939. He attended St. Matthew Lutheran School and worked on the family farm. He was very gregarious and enjoyed socializing with his many friends.
On July 23, 1951 John married Ruth Hennig and they were blessed with four children; Bryan, Brenda, Randy and Deby. They farmed together and John sold John Deere machinery to supplement the farm income for several years, making many friends and acquaintances over a large portion of the area.
John was very active in his church and his community and was respected for his dedication, integrity and honesty. He was presented with the Servant of Christ award for his tireless service within his church. He also received the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year award for his community service. He was very adamant about shopping locally in Stony Plain and often stated that Stony Plain was the best place in the world.
John absolutely loved nature, always seeing God in creation and never failing to share his belief with those around him. He enjoyed many seasons hunting with his buddies, and also loved walking and skiing the trails at Chickakoo. He and Ruth travelled to many places around the world, which he often reminisced about.
John got so much pleasure from his grandchildren and great grand-children. He spent time golfing, driving and going on nature walks with them. In recent years he loved when the great grandkids would come for a visit after school, sing with him and take him out for a drive. He always had an amusing story or antic to share with them.
For all who knew John, he will be fondly remembered for patrolling the Town of Stony Plain and area in his red truck. Because of his careful watch on his community he was asked to take water samples of the ponds and lakes in the area.
John was predeceased by his daughter Brenda and son-in-law Marvin. He is survived by his wife Ruth, children Bryan (Bev), Randy (Connie), Deby (Kim), 7 grandchildren; Laura, Scott, Shawn, Aimee, Luke, Jesse and Cody and spouses and 20 great grandchildren. Also survived by his sisters Rose and Frieda and brother Jack (June).
If friends desire, Memorial Donations may be made in John’s memory to either the St. Matthew Lutheran School or to a Charity of One’s Choice.
Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church July 3rd and 2:00 pm
