Jim was born on May 5, 1928 in Forestburg, Alberta to Ivor and Dorothy Williams. Jim grew up in Mellowdale, Alberta where he worked alongside his father running Williams General Store. Subsequently the family relocated to Lacombe where they purchased a farm. It was during those years that Jim and Ruth Odenbach. In 1952, they married and in 1957, they moved to Edson where they enjoyed 48 years of marriage and raised four children. Jim was an entrepreneur who spent most of his career in the Oil and Gas Industry.
Jim loved the game of golf and honed his skills to a single digit handicap. He was very involved in the development of the Edson Golf Club. In his various volunteer roles with the club, he was instrumental in taking the course from a “sand greens nine hole course” to the eighteen hole course that Edson has today. Jim also loved the game of hockey and continued to play with the Edson Old-Timers team well into his senior years. He was a devoted Edmonton Oilers fan and followed their games closely from the early days of WHA right up until the night he passed away. As an active member of the Kinsmen and then the K40 Clubs, Jim was a strong community supporter.
Following Ruth’s passing in 2000, Jim met Trevera Richardson and they moved to Oliver, BC, where they enjoyed milder climates for more than 17 years. Trevera passed away in 2018. It was at this point Jim moved back to Alberta to be closer to his family.
Left to remember Jim are his children, Ivor (Barb), Carolyn Naylor, Joyce (Larry) Roth and Trish (Stan) Miller; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and his sisters, Marge (Gene) Lazzer and Eileen (Eric) Sinclair.
Jim was predeceased by his son-in-law, Craig Naylor; his mother, Dorothy; his father, Ivor as well as his brothers, Doug (Barbara) and David (Jean).
Jim had an incredible curiosity about everything around him. He had an ablility to find common ground with everyone he met and as such, he made friends easily. His positive attitude in all circumstances and his great sense of humour will be missed by many.
