It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Jacob John Engelhardt, age 78, of Stony Plain, Alberta. Art passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024.
Born on December 4, 1945, Arthur grew up in the Stony Plain area, and later resided in Spruce Grove, where he became a cherished member of his community.
A devoted crane operator for many years, Art had a strong work ethic and a kind, generous spirit. He had a lifelong love of sports, especially the Edmonton Eskimos, the Oilers, and the Spruce Grove Saints, and he enjoyed sharing these passions with his friends and family. His mornings were often spent over a cup of coffee at the local McDonald’s surrounded by friends. Art was known for his warmth, his ability to make friends wherever he went, and his ever-present smile.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Elenor Engelhardt, and his sister-in-law, Julie Engelhardt.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Maria Engelhardt; his stepson, Michael Schmidt; stepdaughter, Pamela Dahl (Greg); and his beloved granddaughters, Presley and Dylann, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Callicott (John); his brothers, Gord Engelhardt (BettyLou), Jim Engelhardt (Shelley), and Wayne Engelhardt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, all of whom he held dear.
In keeping with Art’s wishes, there will be no formal service. The family requests that you remember Art in your own way—through a quiet moment of reflection, a cup of coffee with a friend, or a game of your favorite sport.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
