Martha Sams Manning, 87, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Sunrise Five Forks in Lilburn. Born and raised in Red Rock, Worth County, Georgia in 1924, Martha attended high school in Sylvester and Georgia Southwestern College in Americus. She worked for the FBI during WWII and later for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Knollwood Elementary School, DeKalb County public works, the Georgia Asphalt Pavement Association, and finished her career working for the Georgia Senate. The daughter of Alma M. Sams and Walter W. Sams, and wife of the late Thomas R. Manning, and sister of the late Ophelia "Bea" Schulte, Martha is survived by sons Mark S. Manning and wife Janet C. Manning of Lilburn, Georgia, Thomas M. Manning and wife Cynthia F. Manning of Garland, Texas; grandchildren Ellen M. Davis of Richardson, Texas, Benjamin T. Manning of Arlington, Virginia, Emily L. Manning of Plano, Texas, and John R. Manning of Lilburn, Georgia; sister Joan S. Miller and husband Roy W. Miller of Macon as well as two great grandchildren, Aiden and Grant. Martha was an active and long term member of Mount Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain. Arrangements under the direction of Horis A. Ward - Stone Mountain Chapel, Stone Mountain, GA.
