Jim J. De Mello, born October 3, 1945 in Mendota CA, passed away on September 15, 2018 at home, surrounded by family and friends. A Lifelong Californian, Jim lived and worked in the Bay Area until 1981, when he settled in Stockton. Jim retired in 2009 after a 44-year career as a truck driver. He was also a proud Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Jim lived by his great faith in God and eventually became an ordained minister officiating the wedding of his oldest granddaughter, Kaylee. Jim spent his retirement fishing, traveling with Ms. Peggy, working with fellow veterans, and attending church. Jim touched everyone that he met, was always there for someone in need, and was always great for a good story. He will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Jim was affectionately known as “Pops” by all of the neighborhood kids who called Jim’s home theirs as well.
Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Peggy De Mello: His three children; Matthew De Mello (Jennifer) of Sonora, CA; James Mock (Shannon) of Escondido, CA; Shanelle Robinson (Darnell) of San Jose, CA: His nine grandchildren; T.J. Lewis (Malia), Kayee McCarthy (Kory), Stephen Lewis, Justin De Mello, Johnny Mock, Mallory Lynch, Vada Mock, Sebastian and Christian Robinson: and his great-granddaughter, Alaya Malia Destiny Lewis. Jim is also survived by his sister, Kay Whitehouse; His brother, Manuel De Mello Jr.; his stepbrother, George Williams; and his stepsisters, Rayola Smith and Maryanne Riportella.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and William Phariss; His Father, Manuel (Viola) De Mello; stepbrothers Charles (Buddy) Williams and Ray Williams Jr.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at De Young Shoreline Chapel 7676 Shoreline Drive Stockton, CA 95219.
