Long time Stockton resident James Joseph Guerrero Sr. past away peacefully at his home on 6/17/22. James has just turned 99 years of age on 6/9/22. James was born on 6/9/23 in Stockton Calif. Were he grew up attending Stockton High Tarzans were he played fullback & center for the football and catcher for the Karl Ross Legion Team. James was also a World War 2 veteran which he served in the Navy aboard the “Light Cruiser” USS Birmingham as a assistant gunners mate. James was also a recipient of a Purple Heart from a shrapnel wounds. After the war James was employed by the government at Ruff & Ready island, Sharp’s Depot and Tracy Defense Depot totaling 38 years of service.
James loved the game of baseball and coached for many years starting at Hoover-Tyler Little League, Inland Port Babe Ruth league, American Legion Sharp’s and Karl Ross Teams, ending with Mexican-American League Caballos Teamster 601 team.
James is survived by son Don Guerrero, Daughter Janet Memory, Grandsons Donnie Guerrero, Michael Memory, Nicholas Memory. Grand Daughters Nicole Guerrero and Rochelle Le beck.
Viewing Tuesday 7/5/22 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at De young Memorial Chapel 601 N. California St. Stkn, Ca 95202. Final services 7/6/22 12:00 noon at De young Memorial Chapel and burial at S.J. Catholic Cemetery 719 E. Harding Way, Stkn, Ca 95204.
