Willie Fred “Freddie Jackson was born on June 11, 1943 in Dekalb County, Georgia to the late Reverend J. W. and Leslie Ragsdale Jackson. He departed this life on September 20, 2021. He was the tenth of eleven children. Freddie was education in the Dekalb County School System beginning at County Line Elementary School, and later transferred to Henry County Training School (High School).
Freddie answered the call to serve the Lord at a very young age and joined the Jackson family home church – Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church, located in the County Line/Ellenwood Community. He had a great voice and loved to sing. He joined the Senior Choir and the Male Chorus. He was also a member of the 5 Shepherds Gospel Group. He also reached beyond the walls of the church to spread the Gospel of Good News through music with his 100-person family group called the Jackson Gospel Movement. Freddie was also a great talker, always sharing his life’s experiences and pearls of wisdom to guide your life.
As a young man, Freddie worked in a variety of jobs with companies such as Colonial Stores, Delta Airlines, C & S Meats and Higginbotham Furniture. Then, he finally owned his own business as co-owner of Jackson & Jackson Construction & Concrete Company. Some of his specialties were preparing the foundations for building houses, buildings, doing dugouts, grading, driveways and the like. He never stopped working for himself.
On April 24, 1967, Freddie was united in Holy Matrimony to Margaret Louise White. To this union six children were born. Loving twin sons, Scharod and Scharodrick; loving twin daughters, Sonya and Tonya; loving daughters, Dedtra “Tootie” (deceased) and Leslie. Freddie really loved his beautiful wife and children. He was truly a family man always willing to take time to share a word and make you laugh.
Freddie was preceded in death by his siblings, Eva, Otis, Selima, Vivian, Roy, N.J., Robert and James; daughter, Dedtra “Tootie” and granddaughter, Shanay.
Freddie had a passion for life and leaves a mighty legacy to cherish his memory, his God-fearing wife, Margaret White Jackson; loving sons, Scharod (Diana), Scharodrick (Linda)(a special friend Lisa); daughters, Sonya, Tonya and Leslie; brothers, Charles (Mary) Jackson, Sr. and Nathaniel (Jacquelyn) Jackson, Sr.; sons-in-law, Anthony Stringer and David Brown; in-laws, Annie White Johnson-Sinkfield, Deacon Eddie Lee White, Thomas Huey White, Sr., Minister Melvin E. White, Dr. Alice White Bussey and Gary (Argie) White; grandchildren, Chiquita, Toneisha “Ke-Ke”, Shanicka, Lauryn, Jeremiah, Sir-Mario (Temika), Schaana, Scharvio, Schanelle, Schanzell, Hiroki, Keita, DeMarcus, Lewis and Daisha (goddaughter); great-grandchildren, Danielle, A’Miyah, Taylor, Tyler, Caden, River, Ryleigh, Fortune, Mya, JaVarius, Imani and Marcus; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation for Freddie will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 1:00PM at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel.
