James D. Scarbrough affectionately known as “J.D.” passed away on May 17, 2018. He was born to the late Thomas D. and Margaret Freeman Scarbrough on April 7, 1944 in Mobile, Alabama. He was united in marriage to Nancy Putnam on November 7, 1963. Four children were born from this union; Tom, Michael, John and Angela. J.D. retired from Georgia Power after 36 years of service. He was a coach at Central Dekalb Sports Association for over 20 years and he was an active member of Hopkins Baptist Church of Missouri. After he retired, he and Nancy fulfilled their lifelong dream. They bought a farm and raised cattle.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents and his sister; Jo Cornwell. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 55 years; Nancy, his four children; Tom (Shelby), Michael (Stacey), John (Julie), and Angela (Zach). His grandchildren; Payton (Dani), Baylee (Caleb), Hayden, Avery, Hannah, Major, Cannon, Anthony, Antonio and four step-grandchildren, one uncle; Harry A. Scarbrough, one sister; June (Robert) Craig, one brother-in-law; Donnie Cornwell, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Family and friends will be received at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home 376 Fairview Rd Stockbridge, Ga for visitation on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 6 PM– 8 PM.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel at 2 PM. Interment will immediately follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
