George Tamasi Sr., beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, at his home in Morrow, Georgia. Born on March 16, 1930, in Janoshida, Hungary, George lived a life full of resilience, love, and dedication.
George was the son of Barbara Turoczi and George Tamasi. He faced many challenges in his early years, including the loss of his mother at a young age, which led him to work on a farm at the age of seven. Growing up during a tumultuous time in Eastern Europe, George endured both Nazi and Soviet invasions, ultimately serving as a staff sergeant in the military.
Despite the hardships, George found joy in his passions. A talented stonemason, he spent most of his professional career as a wood finisher, working with esteemed clients such as Delta Airlines, AT&T, Coca-Cola, and several Atlanta-based banks. His dedication to his craft earned him a reputation for perfection, and even in retirement, he continued to refine furniture for notable clients, including state senators and local business leaders.
George’s love for soccer was a significant part of his life; he played on an amateur team and enjoyed coaching the sport. He shared countless memories with his family, attending soccer games and car races. He and his son, George Jr., also cherished their experiences watching Space Shuttle launches at Cape Canaveral. In his later years, George took solace in watching soccer on TV, reminiscing about his youth, and enjoying the beautiful gardens he and his wife, Gabriella, nurtured together.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Gabriella Tamasi, and his son, George Tamasi Jr., along with his daughter-in-law, Linda, and step-granddaughters, Lisa and Victoria. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Barbara.
A man of deep faith, George read his Bible and prayed every evening, bringing comfort to those around him. While he will be profoundly missed, his family finds peace in knowing that he is now at rest.
A funeral mass for George will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 240 Arnold St, Hapeville, GA 30354.
