She was born October 11, 1925 in Atlanta, GA to Joseph C. and Willie Cole Blackmon.
Evelyn was a member of First Baptist Church of Covington and enjoyed spending time with her Sunday School class and church friends. She lived a selfless, Christian life and always put others first. She was devoted to her family and friends and well known for her kind heart, compassion, generosity and gentle spirit. She was MeeMaw, MawMaw, Mother, Ms. Lewis, Aunt Evelyn or Evelyn to those in her life. She was loved by all who knew her and leaves behind so many special and cherished memories.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, William E. Lewis, Sr, (deceased June 8, 2015); also her parents, and one grandson, Kory Lewis. She is survived by her sons Bill (Colleen) Lewis and Jimmy Lewis; granddaughters Jennifer (Brent) Smith and Jodi (Josh Long) Lewis and grandson Alan (Rebecca) Lewis; great granddaughter Maya Lewis and great grandsons Chase, Braxton and Hayden Smith; brother Joseph C. Blackmon, Jr., nieces, Sherry (Stacey) McCarver, Karen (Greg) Smith, Lynda (Tony) Bernard; three great nephews and two great nieces along with great-great nieces and a great-great nephew.
A graveside celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, December 28, 1:00 at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge, GA with Senior Pastor Cody McNutt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Covington, 1139 Usher St., Covington, GA 30014.
