John "Jack" W. Smith

Jack was born on June 10, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Pius H. Smith, Sr., and Margaret Broughton Smith. He grew up in New Jersey and spent many wonderful times at the family “Broughton Farm” in Mount Holly, New Jersey, surrounded by extended family. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Seton Hall University. He worked in sales, and for much of his career, 38 years, he worked at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Stickney, Illinois.

Jack and Jeanne enjoyed many happy times at their lake home in Wisconsin. He was known on the lake as Captain “Whiplash.”

To cherish his memory, Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Jeanne Smith, daughters Julie Goelz (Rich); Denise Carioti (Ricky); Jacqueline Mzhickteno (Jim). Jack is predeceased by his son Drew Evers Smith. Granddaughters Nicole Winkle (Joe); Paige Ruzich (Dan); Genevieve Goelz; Ally Goelz; Grandson, Max Mzhickteno; Great-grandchildren Knox and Tate Winkle; Juliana Ruzich. Brothers, Pius Henry Smith, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and Kevin P. Smith of Sarasota, FL. Jack is predeceased by his brother Edward Smith, of Salina, KS. Jack also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will gather for a funeral service for Jack that will be held on Friday, February 23rd, 2024, at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 116 Barrypoint Road, Riverside, Illinois 60546.
