Born on September 26th, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to Jesse and Gertrude [nee McNulty]. He would grow up in Cicero, Illinois. The youngest of three, he is survived by his brother Gerald (Dolores) and sister Joyce (the late Alan).
Greg grew up with a love of English Literature and a strong sense of family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and a commitment to duty. Following his time in the service, he channeled his passion for problem-solving into a career as a computer programmer. He would become a pioneer in the ever-evolving field as a systems analyst. Due to his interest in and knowledge of his ancestry, he was consulted on a book about the life of his great-grandfather and went on to write a book about his own family history.
Greg was a devoted family man, he is survived and cherished by his loving wife, Margaret [nee Pokorny] of 54 years, as well as his two children; Laura (George) Hurt and Jeffrey (Elena), and his five grandchildren; Erika, Vintonas, Stephanie, Vidas, and Svaja. His family was his pride and joy, and his greatest role in life was being Grandpa.
A true fan of trivia challenges and crossword puzzles, Greg could be found filling one out every morning. He was also a lover of movies and music, passions he eagerly shared with those around him. His love for jokes and puns was one of his favorite ways to make others smile. He also loved to sing and dance and could always be found on the dance floor at every wedding he attended.
Greg will be remembered for for his warm heart, quick wit, expressive eyes, and passions he shared. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will remain in our hearts forever.
A celebration of Greg's life will be held Thursday, December 12th, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mount Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 South Oak Park Ave, Stickney, IL 60402.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Easterseals DuPage and Fox Valley (eastersealsdfvr.org/donate) or to the charity of your choice.
