Charlotte Elizabeth Fitzgerald

Charlotte Elizabeth Fitzgerald, 93, of Staunton, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Brightview at Baldwin Park. Before moving to Brightview at Baldwin Park, she was a resident at Emeritus Assisted living during the past 4 years. Born in Mt. Solon, VA, on February 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Robert Preston and Mary Clay Siple Clatterbaugh.

Charlotte loved to cook, bake and entertain families during the holidays. Her other passion was shopping for clothes and shoes. She took great pride in her appearance; even in her 90’s she continued to talk about fashion. Charlotte always had a positive attitude toward life and was a joy to be around. Widowed by her late husband, Ray Fitzgerald, at an early age, she raised her only son, Bobby, as a single parent while working full time at American Safety Razor Company for many years. In 2012, Bobby went missing on the Confederate Breastworks Trail and to this date still has not been found. Her faith in God kept her strong and her grief was shared by many. Her family takes great joy in knowing she is finally at peace.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Clatterbaugh and her sisters Virginia VanLear and Dorothy Craun. Charlotte is survived by two sisters Mary Spitler, and Ann Polachek all of Staunton, VA. She is also survived by several nieces and a nephew and also leaves behind two special ladies in her life Wanda Dawson and Cindy Hall.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00A.M., Saturday, February 14, 2015, with a visitation one hour prior at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes and Crematory’s, Staunton Chapel, with Reverend Bobby Campbell officiating. There will be a catered luncheon at the funeral home immediately following the service. Burial will be private.
