He was preceded in death by his parents the late William Alfred “W.A.” Gibson and Ann Rinehardt Gibson.
Mike is survived by his brother James Creighton Gibson, sister-in-law Tracey and beloved niece Brittany. Mike was also married to Tina Gibson for eighteen years and she had two children Ashley and Johnny and two grandchildren Corbin and Taylor.
Mike was a long time resident of Wilmington and moved back to Statesville two years ago to be near his family. He was a professional photographer for Racing News and had the privilege of photographing Bobby LaBonte’s wedding. He enjoyed attending many races over the years where he and was a sales representative for Simpson Racing.
Mike spent many happy hours fishing at his favorite place on the pier at Wrightsville Beach. He lived by the Fisherman’s Prayer, “God grant that I may live to fish until my dying day. And, when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord’s safe landing net, I’m peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I may be judged, big enough to keep.”
Mike had a true love for people. Everywhere he went he was providing service and would always make sure everyone had what they needed. He carried this love for people throughout his life.
Mike’s family members feel blessed to have had his loving spirit among us and now give him to God’s loving care.
