He was born February 26, 1943, in Ashe County and was the son of the late Roy Benjamin and Gay Wood Roark. He retired from Bali, was a U.S. Army veteran and a former member of the Harmony American Legion Post 113. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, spending time with his grandkids and family cook-outs.
He is survived by a son, Johnny M. Roark, Jr. of Harmony; a daughter, Renae Roark (Dennis) Johnson of Statesville; five grandchildren, Kelley Krider, Ashley Benfield, Annamae Roark and Ramzee Johnson, all of Statesville and Lakota Goodwin of Jonesville; a great-granddaughter, Elliana Readling of Statesville; a sister, Margaret Gallimore of Taylorsville; and six brothers, Harold (Judy) Roark of Summerville, Howard Roark of West Jefferson, Wayne (Ann) Roark of Harmony, Jerry (Becky) Roark of Winston-Salem, Mike (Sandy) Roark of Statesville and David Roark of Harmony.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Roark Family Cemetery in Copeland, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM tonight (July 15) at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
