John Webster Campbell

Mr. John Webster Campbell, 96, of Waynesboro, Va. and formerly of Statesville, N.C., died March 11, 2011 at the Birch Gardens in Waynesboro. Born November 7, 1914 in Burlington, N.C., he was a son of the late Charles Fletcher Campbell and Troy Lounette Bell Campbell. Mr. Campbell spent his entire career in textile management and was instrumental in developing backing for the carpet industry. He was a Mason and a member of the Main St. United Methodist Church in Waynesboro. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was on the Ticonderoga in Tokyo Bay during the surrender signing ceremony ending the war with Japan. On June 6, 1936, he married the former Virginia Thomas who died July 22, 2006.

Survivors include a son, Duke T. Campbell and his wife, Lurece of Hazlehurst, Georgia, a daughter, Patrice

Campbell and her husband, Robert Snodgrass of Staunton, Virginia, two sisters, Olga Hoskins and her husband, Richard of Reidsville and Peggy Horney of Greensboro along with grandchildren: Duke T. Campbell, Jr., John Charles Campbell and Kate Mollan and great grandchildren: Chelsea Campbell, Alec Campbell, Jackson Campbell, Jenna Claire Campbell, Bobby Mollan and Annie Mollan.

Services celebrating Mr. Campbell's life will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Thurman Horney officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 Monday evening at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
