Born in Elmwood, on September 9, 1929, he was the son of the late Roy Turner and Marie Stockton Turner Hill.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, John Turner, Fred Turner, Charles Turner, Harry Turner, Gene Turner and William Joe Hill and one granddaughter, Quatina Ronai Meredith.
He retired from Amtrak Railroad and was a loyal member of Mt. Zion COGIC. He loved singing and praising God; enjoyed sitting on the porch an waving at people passing by. He enjoyed yard work and most of all, he loved his family.
He leaves to mourn his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Gwendolyn Turner; children, James E. Maxwell, Shana Campbell and William P. Maxwell, all of HBG, Pa., Cynthia (Aubrey) Beverly of King George, VA., Kimberly Turner of HBG, Pa and Sherri L. Meredith of Statesville, NC.
He leaves his grandchildren, Latoya N. Maxwell, Rickeda N. Venable, Marcus A. Maxwell, Mych Smith, Shinay Griffin, Natisha and Natasha Brown, Jonaya L. Meredith, Tavon Beverly and Lakeshia Howard; great-grand, Chardonnay N. Eastman; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Hill Allen and Beatrice (Craig) Dalton of Augusta, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Mr. Turner will lie in state Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 11:00am at Belmont Cemetery. Please respect others by wearing a mask and observing social distancing.
