George spent his childhood years in Davie WV until he joined the Army in 1973. After serving in the Army, he returned home where he worked in and around McDowell County WV. He served as an EMT, a Sheriff’s Deputy, and a repairman. He had spent the last twenty-seven years working as a machine operator in North Carolina.
George loved to fish and spent most of his time helping other people. He was known as “Papaw Fix-it” by his grandchildren. He never met a stranger and always had a smile to share.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Regina Day Coleman; two brothers: Howard Coleman and James Simon Coleman; a daughter: Georgette Coleman Horn.
He is survived by five siblings: Thomas (Kathleen) Coleman, Iager, WV; Norman (Brenda) Coleman, Iager, WV; Iona “Sissy” (Bobby) Collins, Harmony, NC; Jesse “Butchie” (Sandy) Coleman, Rocky Gap, VA; Donnie “Dumpy” (Donald) Ratcliff, Iager, WV; multiple nieces and nephews that he adored; but Tammy Sue (Bill) Cecil, [Premier, WV] was his favorite; a daughter, Delores Coleman Mullins, Tazewell, VA; a step-daughter, Bobbi (George) Reavis, Yadkinville, NC; and six grandchildren.
There will be a private family memorial service on Saturday, January 30, 2021.
