She was born December 6, 1918, in Iredell County and was the late J.R. and Elva Lowrance Hartness. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for many years until her health declined. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, and United Methodist Women, as well as Secretary to the Administrative Board.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Haskel Scott; her second husband, Ralph Grose; a brother, Robert Hartness; three sisters, Aline Hartness, Eurilla Watts and Mildred Tilley; and a grandson Brian Miller.
She is survived by two daughters, Vivian Wooten (Jimmy) and Carole Burke (Clarence) both of Statesville; two sons, Gary Scott (Teresa) of Mooresville and Wayne Scott (Brenda) of Statesville; four grandchildren, Cathy Mitchell (Jody), Roger Miller (Stacey), Shelton Scott and Michael Scott; three step-grandsons: five great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren and 1 step-great-great grandson; a sister, Catheryn Seng of Maryland; three sisters-in-law, Donna Hartness, Margie Hall of South Carolina, Leona Leggett of Virginia; and a brother-in-law, Don Scott (Gerry Lou).
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall one hour prior to the serice.
