Born In Iredell County on October 22, 1932, he was the son of the late Augustus Steele and Zora Campbell Steele.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Rosialyn R. Steele, ten siblings and four children, Diane, Jonathan, Charlene and a baby boy.
Mr. Steele loved his family, especially his grand, great-grand and great-great grandchildren. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, enjoyed farming, taking care of his livestock and worked many years in textiles.
Those left to cherish his memory are three sons, John Steele (Julie), Joe Williams, and Charles Steele, Jr; two daughters, Zora Mae Tucker (Oscar) and Priscilla Holmes (Billy) and four brothers, Dallas Steele, Jimmy Steele, Clarence Steele and John “JP” Steele.
He is further survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Steele will lie in state at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM and Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Due to social distancing guidelines and number of attendees, the family will hold a private service with Bishop Dennis M. Clodfelter and Rev. Carl Williams officiating.
