Brenda Sue Benge

Brenda Carter Benge, 72, of Statesville, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Gordon Hospice House. She was born in Welch, West Virginia on April 28, 1952. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Hulin Collins and Vicie Carter Collins; granddaughter, Breanna Carter; and brother, Kenny Collins.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Johnny Benge; children, Luther Carter (Rachael), Timothy Wheeler (Debbie), David Atwell (Connie), Susan Wheeler, and Kenneth “Duke” Wheeler (Jessica Osborne). She is also survived by many grandchildren, including Cheyenne and Luther Carter, Mckaela Gilbert, Kelsey and Skylar Wheeler, Blake Matney, Destiny Atwell, Annie Smith and Ciara Smith, Rebekah Brandt, Ashley Hoots, Brooklyn, KayLynn and Roselyne Osborne, Brenn Wheeler, Dakota Hatfield and Malcolm Hatfield; many great grandchildren including, Lenneth Threatte, and Riviera, Jeffery (Joey) and Wesley Brandt; brothers, David Collins (Charlene), Larry Collins, Mark Collins, Bobby Collins (“Sissy” Iona); and sisters, Doretha C. Ochs (Mike), and Kathy Calhoun.

Family will receive friends on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Brenda’s life will follow at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Bill Troutman officiating.
