Mrs. Hodges was born in Evans County and lived most of her life in Statesboro. She attended Georgia Teacher’s College and was a member of Statesboro First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Crusader’s Sunday School Class. She worked part-time with H. W. Smith Jewelers and T. E. Rushing Peanut Company and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Japper Reid and Jane Rushing Bowen and her husband, Julian B. Hodges.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hodges Yawn and her husband, Bruce of Statesboro, son, J. Bird Hodges, Jr. and his wife Betty of Statesboro, sister, Carolyn Bowen Christian of Valdosta, 4 grandchildren, Jeff and Megan Yawn, Nancy and Chad Wiggins, Jay and Summer Hodges, Susan and Brandon Williams all of Statesboro, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 26, 2015 in Statesboro First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jimmy Cason and Pastor Brandon Williams officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
The Crusader’s Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
