Marilyn was born in Savannah and moved with her family at a young age to Statesboro, where she attended local schools and graduated from Register School. Marilyn was a longtime member of Middleground Primitive Baptist Church and was a founder of the Thigpen, Lanier, Westerfield and Deal CPA Firm. She loved to cook and was well known for her pound cakes and crocheted afghans. Mrs. Riggs was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond P. and Edna Mae Jones, sister, Laveau Vernay and her husband of 56 years, Arthur James Riggs, Sr.
She is survived by three sons, Arthur James (Jamie) Riggs, Jr. and his wife, Catherine of Richmond Hill; Michael Riggs and his wife, Marsha of Atlanta and Phillip T. Riggs and his wife, Felice of Statesboro; 7 grandchildren, Lindsey Riggs, Brian Riggs, Laura Petitone and her husband Joseph, Eric Riggs, Ashleigh Riggs, Adam Thompson and Elizabeth Rustin and her husband Chris; three great grandchildren, Lucas and Liam Petitone and Lennon Rustin; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Middleground Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Buck Grantham and Elder Howard Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in Lower Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Riggs will lie in state from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.
