The native and life-long resident of Bulloch County was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She was employed at Statesboro Nursing Home for a number of years. Southern cooking was a passion of hers, as was growing beautiful flowers in her garden and watching the Georgia Bulldogs. Though she suffered from Alzheimer’s, Mrs. Barnes always greeted you with a warm smile and a special hand touch. She was a member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are her two sons, Ronald (Terri) Barnes and Donald Barnes, daughters, Wanda (Edwin) George, Faye (Stacy) Webb, and Pat (Nelson) Holland, brother, Tommy Deal, sisters-in-law, Billie Jean Deal and Arlene Durham and eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her first husband, James D. Conner, who died serving in WWII, her second husband, James William Barnes, a daughter, Janice Kay Brown, her parents, Ophelia Allen and Roger O. Deal, her stepmother, Josephine Hendrix Deal, a sister, Lou Ellen Jones, brothers, James E. Deal, Roger O. Deal, Rawdon Deal and Billy Joe Deal and a daughter-in-law, Eva Barnes.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, Westside Road, Statesboro, GA. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation with Elder Sam Bryant officiating.
Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Gregory George, Timothy George, Scott Webb, Parker Webb, Christopher Brown, Davis George, Rick Smith and Chris Strahan.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care and dedication given by the staff of the Season’s Wing at Willow Pond, as well as the staffs of Kindred Hospice and Southern Care Hospice.
