Charles Christian Sorensen

Charles Christian Sorensen, age 91, passed away, with his loving wife by his side, Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.

Charles was born in Englewood, NJ and was raised in Closter, NJ, where he attended local schools. After high school, Charles served in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1947, where he saw action in both the American and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters. He went on to attend Columbia University, studying in the field of construction. Charles became the Director of Construction and Maintenance with the Grand Union Company, where he worked for 30 years and then went on to work with Red Apple Supermarkets, in New York for many years. While in New Jersey, Charles served as an integral member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in New Milford, NJ and maintained his active membership there until he retired to live in Boca Raton, FL, where he and his wife lived for 20 years. Charles and Marilyn moved to Brooklet 10 years ago and were active members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Statesboro, until Charles’ health prevented their attendance.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Hans Christian and Charlotte Ann Block Sorensen and his daughter, Gail Ann Vouvalides.

Charles is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ann Sorenson of Brooklet; son, Eric Sorensen of Hawthorne, NJ; daughter, Linda Proto of Lodi, NJ; brother, Peter Sorensen of Closter, NJ; sister, Harriette Steiner of Old Tappan, NJ; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, April 22, 2017 in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Clay and Chaplin David Colburn officiating, followed by a catered reception in the funeral home.

An inurnment will be held in Westwood Cemetery, Westwood, NJ at a later date.
