Mr. Charles D. Murphy, 84, died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 in his residence surrounded by his family. He was under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Mr. Murphy was born in Lost Creek, WV and moved to Statesboro in 1963 living here until 1974 and retired to Brooklet in 1992. He was retired from the United States Air Force after 26 ½ years of service, having served in the Vietnam War and also in Thailand and Singapore. For the next 10 years, he served on a radar ship for RCA. Charles was a faithful member of Pittman Park United Methodist Church, where he volunteered many hours of service to the church and to the XYZ Senior Citizens Group. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Denzle and Thelma Grace Bauserman Murphy and his son, Terry James Murphy.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Willa Mae Murphy, Brooklet; Sons, Chuck Murphy (Linda) and Kevin Murphy (Lesly Negron), of Statesboro; Daughters, Karen Tanksley (Steve), Stilson; Brenda Toledo, Jacksonville, FL; and Pamela Young, Cooper City, FL; Daughter-in-law, Julie Murphy, Statesboro; Brothers, Kenneth Joe Murphy (Lou), California; William Eugene Murphy (Charlotte), Keyser, WV; Marvin Lynn Murphy (Charlotte), Navarro, FL, Sister, Alma Grace Carmichael, Clarksburg, WV, 16 Grandchildren, 17 Great-Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM Saturday, October 5, in Pittman Park United Methodist Church with Rev. William K. Bagwell officiating. A visitation will be held in the church from 1:30 PM until the funeral hour.
Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
