William (Bill) J. Tasker, age 96, passed away peacefully at home on November18, 2024 with his loving family members at his bedside.
He was born March 19, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Theresa and William J. Tasker. Bill served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army’s 82nd Airborne Division from 1949 to 1952, rising to the rank of Sergeant. His service instilled in him a sense of discipline and dedication that he carried throughout his life.
After his military service, Bill was employed by the New York City Department of Sanitation for 20 years, retiring as a foreman. He then embarked on a second career at JP Morgan in New York City, where he continued to demonstrate his exemplary work ethic until his retirement. During these careers, Bill lived in Brooklyn for 60 years and raised seven extraordinary children that he cherished. He then moved to Newton, NJ with his wife Ellen. After his wife’s death, he moved to Staten Island, NY to be closer to his family.
Bill was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who touched the lives of many with his kindness, dedication, and unwavering spirit.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Theresa and William Tasker, his wife, Ellen Gordon Tasker, his sister, Louise Keating, and his brother, Ernest Tasker. He is survived by his children: Mary Wright, Therese (Phil) Pederson, William (Maureen) Tasker, Janet (Byron) Lamm, Joseph Tasker, Stephen (Tracy) Tasker, and Jacqueline (Atef) Moussa. He also leaves behind his beloved 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, who will remember him fondly and carry forward his legacy.
Bill will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his dedication to his faith, his commitment to his work, and his service to his country. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and generosity that will continue to inspire those who knew him. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing.
A visitation will be held at Casey-McCallum Rice Funeral Home, located at 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308, on November 24, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The funeral service will take place at St. Clare Roman Catholic Church, located at 110 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308, on November 25, 2024, from 9:45 am to 10:30 am.
The committal service will be conducted at St. Charles / Resurrection Cemeteries, 2015 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY 11735, on November 25, 2024, from 12:30 pm to 12:45 pm.
