Mr. Ryan was born in Brooklyn and graduated from St. Leonard's Academy. In 1967, he moved to Castleton Corners.
Mr. Ryan worked for 55 years as a terminal manager. He began his career at Farrell Lines, Manhattan, and retired in 2010 from Howland Hook Terminal in Mariners Harbor.
He was a member of the Friday Friendship Club in Seaside Heights, N.J.
Mr. Ryan was proud of his Irish heritage. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also liked reading and solving crossword puzzles.
He was a parishioner of St. Rita's R.C. Church, Meiers Corners.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Julia (Judy) Dunn; four sons, Robert, William, Kevin and Timothy; a daughter, Patricia Donovan; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 11:15 a.m. in St. Rita's Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
