Thomas J. Johnston

Family patriarch; devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Thomas was born in Brooklyn NY to the late Mary and Michael Johnston. He attended St.Francis Prep HS in Brooklyn, and upon graduating he joined the US Army, serving 2 years in Germany.

Upon returning from military service, Mr. Johnston embarked on a long career in the New York City Fire Department, ultimately retiring as Lieutenant.

Thomas married Martha McFadden on June 5, 1954 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Brooklyn. They were blessed with nearly 68 years of marriage together and cherished their enduring love. Above all, celebrating life’s joyous moments with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was what gave Thomas his greatest pride and joy.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Martha; his devoted children Thomas & Lynda Johnston of Leland NC, Ann Johnston of Jackson NJ, Joan Johnston of Leland NC and Patricia (Johnston) & Steven Arnone of Great Kills Staten Island. He is also survived by his dearest grandchildren, Megan ,Thomas, Steven, Christopher and Joseph, as well as his great-grandchildren Jack and Paisley.

A visitation for Thomas will be held Sunday, May 22, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308. A funeral service will occur Monday, May 23, 2022 at 9:45 AM at St. Clare's Church, 110 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308. A committal service will occur Monday, May 23, 2022 at 12:00 PM in St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
