Thomas Ferranti, 53, of Holmdel, New Jersey, passed away suddenly at home on October 21st, 2022. A devoted husband and father of three, Tom was love and light incarnate; he viewed each day as a treasure to be savored. A gentleman, a scholar, and an athlete, Mr. Ferranti’s career trajectory was circuitous. He fulfilled his youthful dream of becoming an attorney, engaged in private practice, and also served New York City for 21 years as a firefighter for the FDNY. While parenting his children, he volunteered for many years as a soccer coach for Our Lady Help of Christians, and baseball coach for the South Shore Little League and the Holmdel Youth Activities Association.
Born on March 14, 1969 to Janet and the late Thomas Ferranti, Tom’s close-knit family also included his younger sister, Gina, currently of Brooklyn, and his cherished grandparents, Faye and Armand Imbriani. Reared and educated primarily on Staten Island, Mr. Ferranti was a proud graduate of Monsignor Farrell High School, and was named an All-Star football player during the school’s 1986 Metro Bowl Championship year. He attended St. John’s University, Staten Island, on full scholarship, and was elected President of Iota Alpha Sigma fraternity, He served as an emissary for visiting dignitaries as a member of the school’s selective President’s Society. Upon graduation, Mr. Ferranti attended St. John’s University School of Law, Queens, where he earned his Juris Doctorate. He married his high-school sweetheart, the former Renee Esposito, in 1998.
Mr. Ferranti had a multitude of personal interests. He considered conversation to be a “dying art,” and engaged with people wherever he went. A gracious, funny, friendly individual, he endeared himself to strangers – who quickly became friends. Naturally ebullient and charming, many described him as the “nicest guy I ever met.” He was an avid reader, sports enthusiast, and animal lover. His favorite team was the New York Yankees; he frequently attended games with his son, Christian, and his lifelong best friend, Jim Newton.
Mr. Ferranti enjoyed traveling and considered Kauai, Hawaii, the most beautiful destination on Earth. He and his wife were planning to take their children to Hawaii in 2023 to celebrate their 25th anniversary. He was, however, happiest at home, surrounded by nature, accompanied by his family. A silly, hands-on dad, he delighted in every minute spent with his children, and considered fatherhood to be his greatest accomplishment.
Mr. Ferranti leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and laughter. He is survived by his wife Renee, and his beloved children, Olivia, Christian, and Charlotte, and his kittens, Coconut and Stag. He is also survived by his mother, Janet, his sister, Gina, his mother-in-law, Suzette Esposito, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nicole and David Polly, and his nephew and niece, Quinn and Brier Polly. They, and the legions of friends he made along the way, consider themselves blessed to have walked beside him.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations, made in the name of Thomas Ferranti, should be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
