Born in Brooklyn, New York, to the late William and Helen Lake, Ruth moved to Staten Island with her husband and three sons in 1974 to the same house she lived to this day. She worked at New Dorp High School in the program office for over 30 years. Ruth touched the lives of many students who volunteered in the office and continued friendships into their adulthood. Even in her neighborhood, she was always available for a cup of tea and a game of chess for those who needed extra care.
Ruth enjoyed cooking and baking her loved ones favorite dishes, the Yankees, and Elvis Presley. She loved to travel with her husband around the world, especially to Scotland and London, England. Ruth enjoyed taking her granddaughters on special trips, including a trip to Disney World with each one.
Ruth is preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, George; her son Bobby and his wife Jennifer; her granddaughters Jessica Lynn (Jesse), Kayla Rose, Megan Elizabeth and Alexandra Ruth; and her son Gary, his wife Jennifer, and his stepdaughters Sydney and Meghan.
