Born on St. Patrick's Day in Hoboken, New Jersey, as the eldest child of Josephine (nee Sileo) and Anthony Juliano, she was a Staten Islander all but her first year, raised in South Beach until adulthood and then residing in West Brighton. She married her beloved Albert in 1943, and they enjoyed life together until his passing far too soon in 1979. They raised three loving sons -- Albert (Joyce), Nicholas (Eileen), and Ronald (Belina), who together brought into the family 11 grandchildren/step-grandchildren. She cherished her time with them and with her siblings -- late sister Annette and husband Joseph, brother Donald and late wife Moira, and brother Anthony and wife Marie. Great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins will also miss her dearly.
Rachel attended P.S. 39, graduated from New Dorp High School as class valedictorian, and then held office positions with a Manhattan law firm and Bethlehem Steel on Staten Island. After marriage, Rachel and Al lived on a U.S. Army base in Florida until returning to Staten Island and civilian life. Rachel rejoined the workforce in 1970 as a personnel assistant at the Sears, Roebuck store, retiring as Personnel Manager in 1988.
Rachel's strength, intelligence, concern for others, and independence carried her forward through an active retirement. She worked part-time for a decade caring for children at the local YMCA and spent long hours assisting at the polls on election days. As a volunteer, she was the corresponding secretary and recording secretary for the Staten Island Historical Society at Historic Richmond Town, helped at Sailors Snug Harbor as a tour guide and with special events, and participated in the Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) Women's Auxiliary. Many close personal friends and neighbors will miss her.
Visitation for Rachel will be Monday, November 18, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2024, starting at 11:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 1091 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10310.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the RUMC Foundation or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
