Peter J. Esposito, 77, of Tottenville, NY passed away peacefully, on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at his home. His family was by his side. A native Staten Islander, Mr. Esposito enjoyed a storied professional career. At the time of his passing, he was a Director elected to the Richmond County Savings Bank Divisional Board, a division of New York Community Bank. Mr. Esposito was a pillar of the community; as President of the South Shore Rotary Club and a Paul Harris fellow, he presided over numerous charitable and cultural events. He was a Trustee of South Shore Rotary and a member of its foundation, and served as a past Chairman of the Richmond County Fair. He also served on the Boards of Trustees for the New York Chapter of the Boy Scouts, the Staten Island Chapter of the Leukemia Society, and the Juvenile Diabetes Society.
As giving back was of utmost importance to him, Mr. Esposito volunteered his time with a variety of local organizations. His fondest memories included the years spent organizing and chaperoning the prom at the Hungerford School, serving Thanksgiving dinner at local shelters, and delivering holiday baskets to families in need.
Born on February 19, 1943 in West Brighton, NY to the late Louis and Jean Esposito, his close-knit family also included his older brother Pat Esposito, currently of Morganville, NJ, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He graduated from Curtis High School and began his professional life as an electrical tradesman. He was a member of the Army Reserves, and, as a young man, served his country with gratitude and devotion.
Intellectually incisive, meticulous in nature, and perpetually curious, Mr. Esposito moved through a variety of professional affiliations as his career trajectory evolved. Prior to his employment at Richmond County Savings Bank, where he held a number of designations over a 45 year span, he worked as a real estate broker for the Accardo Agency. In 1971, he was named Salesman of the Year by the New York State Real Estate Association. He was instrumental in the creation of the Staten Island Board of Realtors and became a licensed real estate appraiser. He furthered his certifications at a number of esteemed colleges and universities, including Ithaca College, Fairfield University, and Syracuse University.
Mr. Esposito was a capable individual who could build or fix anything. He was a master carpenter; in 1984, he realized the dream of designing and building his own family home in Tottenville. He lived here until his passing, creating beautiful memories with those he loved; particularly his five grandchildren whom he adored. He believed his family was his greatest blessing.
In his later years, Mr. Esposito enjoyed spending time at his lakeside vacation home in Sarasota, Florida which provided him with abundant leisure opportunities, new friends, and many happy memories.
His rapier wit and humor were known to cause eruptions of laughter wherever he was. Whether a lifelong friend or a new acquaintance, all were sure to leave smiling after spending any amount of time with him.
In his final weeks, Mr. Esposito received an outpouring of affection from friends, colleagues, and acquaintances, old and new, and those whose lives he touched. There were many reminiscences, and it brought him much comfort to hear their stories of love and laughter.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Suzette Pfleging Esposito, whom he treasured. He is also survived by his two daughters, Renee Esposito-Ferranti and husband Thomas, of Holmdel, New Jersey, and Nicole Esposito-Polly and husband David of Trumbull, Connecticut. Five beautiful grandchildren, Olivia Ferranti, Christian Ferranti, Quinn Polly, Brier Polly, and Charlotte Ferranti complete the family circle, along with his granddog, Coco Violet Polly. A bevy of cherished friends and family mourn his loss, as do many in the Staten Island community. Peter Esposito enriched the lives of all who knew him – and impacted, in some way, many who did not. He will be greatly missed.
Due to COVID, a private memorial mass is planned for mid-November. A public celebration of the life of Peter Esposito will be held in Spring, 2021.
