Norma Reyes

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former Staten Island resident Norma Reyes, 68, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., a retired postal employee who would do anything for family, died Wednesday in Tradition Medical Center, Port St. Lucie.

Born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, she moved with her family at the age of 12 to Brooklyn. In 1994, she moved to Westerleigh. She also lived in Dongan Hills before relocating to Port St. Lucie in 2014.

She worked at a U.S. Post Office in Manhattan for 20 years, and later at the main branch on Manor Road in Castleton Corners, until retiring in 2008.

A baseball enthusiast, she was a loyal New York Mets fan.

She was devoted to her family's well-being and was especially close to her daughter, Lissette Reyes. She was also a loving aunt to her nieces, nephews and extended family.

"To sum up my mother-in-law in a sentence is not possible, but what comes to mind is outgoing, kind, sensitive, giving, fun-loving and loved by so many — simply a remarkable woman," said her son-in-law, Richard Bernstein.

In addition to her daughter, Lissette, she is survived by her brothers, Wence, Rufino and Jorge Reyes, and her sisters, Amelia Pico and Irma Lipman.

The funeral will be Monday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's R.C. Church, both in Dongan Hills. Arrangements include cremation.
