Maura Rooney passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26 at Seaview Nursing Home on Staten Island, NY where she resided for a number of years. She was 89. Maura grew up in Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo, and emigrated to the US at age 18 in 1952. She resided in the Bronx at first, and lived for many years in Long Island City, before settling in Staten Island just a few years ago.
Maura was a live wire, who tore up the dance floors at the Jaeger House and Paprins back in their heyday. She poured out love to her family like it was going out of style. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Martin, and her sister Cecelia. She is survived by her brothers Tom (Winnie) and Seamus (Margaret) and her many nieces and nephews. Maura had a heart of gold. Maura lived a long life but her passing leaves a huge void in the lives of her family and friends.
All are invited to attend her memorial service on Friday, December 30, at 11am at St Clare's Chapel in Great Kills, Staten Island, which will also be livestreamed.
