Beloved family matriarch
Kathleen "Kitty" Agnes Durso passed away at age 95 on Sunday, July 10, 2016. She was born on Jan. 21, 1921, in Manhattan, N.Y. She moved to Brooklyn and then spent 52 years as a Staten Island resident. At the time of her death, she was living in Jackson, N.J.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen E. Durso and Michele M. DiMartino, and sons, Lawrence E. Durso and Joseph A. Durso; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Kitty belonged to various senior groups in her community and was an avid bowler for many years. She liked her mind and body to always be active. She loved enjoying holidays with her family and all of the chaos brought by her great-grandchildren. Her family notes that her sharp sense of humor always kept it fresh.
Before retiring in 1984, she was employed by NYC Transit. Kitty had a true compassion for animals, so in lieu of flowers she would have appreciated contributions to the Humane Society.
Kitty will be buried with her husband, Lawrence A. Durso, in St. Peter's Cemetery in Staten Island.
If you would like to join the family in paying respects, the viewing is Tuesday, July 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Virginia Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass is Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church in Midland Beach.
Arrangements under the direction of Virginia Funeral Chapel, Staten Island, NY.
