James McAlarney, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Manor Heights on January 13, 2024. Born in Staten Island, James was a proud Army Sergeant who served during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Curtis High School and went on to have a successful career with the MTA - New York City Transit, Department of Buses, where he retired as a Superintendent Route Manager after dedicating over 25+ years of service.
In addition to his role at the MTA, James was a familiar face to many as he worked for more than three decades as a Sunday Paper delivery driver for the Staten Island Advance. His commitment to his community and work ethic were truly admirable.
James was a faithful member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, where he found solace and strength in his faith. He was a loving husband to Ann Marie (nee Mangiero), who preceded him in death in 2000. Together, they shared 31 years of marriage and faced life's challenges hand in hand. James also experienced the heartbreaking loss of his son James in 2011.
Despite life's adversities, James found joy in his family and the passions he pursued. An avid golfer, he spent 2-3 days a week on the golf course for the past 25 years, creating lasting memories with friends and family.
He is survived by his children Shawn (Kerry), Keith (Dawn), Brian (Kelly), and grandchildren James, Kacie, Emily, Gabriel, Madison, Dylan, Emily Weber, and Matthew. James is also remembered by his sister, Terry Elsaadany.
Services to honor and remember James will be held at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10314. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 2 - 4 PM and 7 - 9 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 9:30 AM, followed by interment at Forest Green Park Cemetery.
James McAlarney will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life. May he rest in peace.
