James was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 7, 1932. He attended The Manual Training High School in Brooklyn, NY and worked as a Checker for the NYSA-ILA for over forty years. He married and raised his family in Brooklyn, NY before moving to Staten Island in 1996. He enjoyed watching horseracing and sports and spending time with his family.
James is survived by two daughters, Maureen Benedict and her husband Charles, of Hazlet, NJ, and Mary Jane Markowitz and her husband Paul, of Staten Island, NY; three grandchildren Lauren Kelly and her husband Brendan of Hazlet, NJ, Charles M. Benedict of Hazlet NJ, and Ryan Markowitz of Staten Island, NY; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Mia and Charles, all of Hazlet, NJ, and grand-dog Lola.
James is predeceased by his wife of fifty-one years, Theresa Dwyer.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM at Harmon Funeral Home, Staten Island. The funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at St. Teresa’s Church in Staten Island. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery
