Donald J. Traynor, 82, of Staten Island, NY, passed away on January 29, 2024, in the Staten Island Care Center where he was rehabbing. He was born on June 3, 1941, on Staten Island. Donald was a quiet man who liked his privacy, but had very strong convictions about certain things. He loved his neighbors and his neighborhood.
Donald is survived by his girlfriend, Marie of Massachusetts, and his nephew, Richard, niece Stacy, grandnephew Todd, and grandnieces Alexis and Avery of NJ, his extended family - the Ferrante's and Kelly's of Staten Island and NJ and his next-door neighbors. He was preceded in death by his father, Christopher, his mother, Catherine (nee Tupay), his sister, Patricia (nee Traynor) Post, and his brother-in-law, Richard Post Sr. of NJ.
Donald attended P.S. 20 and P.S. 44 for his primary education and later graduated from Port Richmond High School. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War Era from 1965 to 1969, stationed in Alaska.
Throughout his career, Donald worked as a clerk/typist in the Documentation/Freight department at United States Lines at One Broadway from 1959 to 1987. After U.S. Lines’ demise, he worked at Crowley Maritime in Cranford, NJ, Hyundai American Shipping in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, and Inchcape Shipping Services in Plainfield, NJ until his retirement in 2001.
In his earlier years, Donald enjoyed boating, fishing, and growing vegetables in his yard. He also enjoyed spending time with his girlfriend in Massachusetts, vacationing in Maine, attending functions with his family in NJ, and family picnics and gatherings with extended family on Staten Island.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2nd from 4PM to 8PM at Casey Funeral Home, located at 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10AM, Saturday, February 3rd, at St. Michael's Church, 211 Harbor Road, Staten Island.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
