Born in Polizzi Generosa, Italy Charlotte (Franca Spagnuolo) came to Staten Island as a teenager and graduated from St. John Villa Academy. She began her career working in the Banking Department of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company and met her husband, Gerald Byrne at the Staten Island Catholic Club. They raised four children together in Holy Family Parish and Blessed Sacrament School. Her family, which included the extended Byrne and Spagnuolo families filled her with the most important memories of her life. Charlotte loved spending summers with her family at the beach in Lavalette, NJ and throughout her life wanted to walk along the boardwalk every day.
She loved being surrounded by people and activities, planning and hosting parties and outings. After raising her four children and attending the College of Staten Island she began working for the City of New York, serving many years in the administration at Seaview Hospital Rehabilitation Center & Home. She loved her job and worked well past retirement age. Charlotte was an active participant in political, social and civic affairs and contributed greatly to the Staten Island community.
She was predeceased by her husband Gerald, her daughter Rebecca and beloved niece Lucia and survived by her four children Elizabeth, Noreen, David and Paul (and daughter-in-law Mia), as well as, by her beloved nephew, Fabio, five grandchildren (Kate, Shane, Skyler, Finn and Samuel) and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins in both Italy and the United States.
