2010 - 2021
Charles Christopher Correll, age 10, passed away on January 26, 2021 on Staten Island due to complications from Covid-19.
Charlie was born on December 3, 2010, with a rare brain disorder called holoprosencephaly (HPE), a condition his parents were told is "not compatible with life."
Defying all odds and medical expectations, Charlie went home 10 days later. Throughout the next decade, he bravely endured countless surgeries and fought valiantly for every breath, all while spreading endless joy and light to his family and friends. Charlie loved being with people and wanted to be a part of everything - whether it was quietly cuddling with a parent, or interacting with a room full of people. His infectious laugh and bright smile will always be remembered.
A student in the fifth grade at PS37R, Charlie loved going for walks, racing in his wheelchair, playing with his siblings, and watching SpongeBob SquarePants.
Charlie is survived by his parents, Cheryl (Maira) and Christopher; his sister, Georgia; his brother, Caden; and many aunts, uncles and cousins who all loved him very much. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Diane and George Maira, and Jerome and Rosemary Correll.
Calling hours will be held between 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 4th at Harmon Funeral Home, located at 571 Forest Ave., Staten Island, NY 10310. On Friday, February 5th, there will be a funeral mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, located at 10 Austin Pl., Staten Island, NY 10304 at 10 a.m.
