On Thursday, February 22, 2024, Angela Pepe (nee Romano), lovingly known to many as “Nonna”, passed away at the age of 88 surrounded by her family. Born in San Massimo, Italy on December 19, 1935, she immigrated to America in 1948 with her mother, Filomena, her brother, Armando, and her sister, Christine to join her father and her other siblings. They resided in Newark, New Jersey. After her marriage, she lived in Ozone Park and settled in Staten Island in 1966.
Angela was the loving wife of Jerry for almost 65 years before his passing in 2019. She is survived by her four children: Louis (Linda), Anthony (Sandra), Phyllis (Alfonso) Malgieri and Diana; 4 grandchildren: Anthony (Teressa) Pepe, Gia (Joe) Rickman, Stephanie Pepe and Nicholas Malgieri; 4 great-grandchildren: Nicholas Pepe, Frankie Lynn, Jace and Luca Louis Rickman, her sisters-in-law, Anna Pepe and Betty Romano, her brother-in-law, Benny Marsillo and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Guerino “Jerry” Pepe, her grandson, Frank Pepe, and her great-grandson, Anthony; her parents, Annibale and Filomena (nee Farano) Romano; her brothers, Alfred (Rose) and Armando Romano; and her sisters, Carmela Puglisi, Bambina Gaglio, Rosa Avallone and Christine Micone.
Angela was the epitome of the perfect wife and mother. She loved nothing more than to take care of her family. She was an amazing cook and her Italian food was enjoyed by everyone who walked into her home. Her homemade pasta, bread and pizza was delicious. There was never a meal that wasn’t spectacular when Angela was cooking. She was an equally amazing baker and made not only every holiday but every day a culinary delight with her cheesecake, her biscotti, her pizelle and her rainbow cookies. She loved having company and taking care of everyone. She especially enjoyed her time spent with her female bowling buddies in her Wednesday morning league at Rab’s and even more so her trips to Atlantic City with her husband and their friends, Mario and Angie Marsillo, and then later on with her girlfriends, Martha and Gladys. She was also blessed with the canine companionship of the family Shih-tzu, Luca, who also loved Nonna’s cooking.
She will be sadly missed but never forgotten by all that were fortunate enough to know and love her.
