Ruth was born in Gaston County on August 30, 1930, the daughter of Rev. Michael G Cloer, founding pastor of Craig Memorial Baptist Church, and Emma Ross Cloer. Working in textile mills for over 35 years, she retired from Burlington Industries in Mount Holly, NC, in 1992. She proudly earned her GED from Gaston College at the age of 60. After retirement, she was a caregiver for elderly members of the community and provided transportation for seniors until she was 92. Ruth was a member of Alexis Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was self-taught on the piano and played hymns for area churches and nursing facilities. She was very generous to support Christian ministries, missions, charities, and veteran non-profits.
Her family extends their gratitude to the many friends and church members for their visits, correspondence, and gifts during her residence at a nursing facility, and for the loving care from the staff at Courtland Terrace and Hospice of Gaston County.
The funeral will be held Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Alexis Baptist Church with visitation at 2:00 pm and the service at 3:00 pm.
Memorial donations are preferable to Lottie Moon missions and to Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina at BCH of NC, PO Box 338, Thomasville, NC, 27361-9911.
