Our loving Mama and Maw-Maw Cardin, as she was affectionately known by her family, entered into eternal rest with our Lord and Savior on May 25, 2017, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Nellene was born in Alta Vista, Virginia on December 31, 1924, to Thornton Bradley Seay and Letha Pruitt Seay Fisher. She resided in Gastonia and Dallas, NC, then over 20 years at McLurd Manor Retirement Center in Stanley, North Carolina before moving to Winston-Salem in 2016 to live with her daughter.
Nellene had an unwavering faith in God, and was a former member of Unity Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina. Following her move to Stanley, she became a faithful member of First Baptist Church, actively involved in the senior choir, mission work, crafts, and Meals on Wheels. She was a loving and deeply caring lady to her family, friends, and anyone who needed help, always showing unselfish care and concern for the needs of others. Nellene was employed for over twenty years in the lab at Threads, Incorporated in Gastonia, North Carolina. During her employment, she developed and enjoyed many lasting friendships. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves on TV.
Nellene was preceded in death by her parents; husband (William B. Cardin), brother (Edward Seay), and son-in-law (Jim Wampler). She is survived by her sons, Bill (Linda) Cardin, Louis (Vickie) Cardin, and daughter Doris Wampler; her grandchildren – Jodie (Stephen) Burr, Clarissa (Brett) Relick, Joni (Glenn) Burton, Adam (Stacy) Cardin, and Jason (Nicole) Wampler; and great-grandchildren – Remington Relick, Landon, Caleb, Owen and Amelia Burr, Ansley, Colton, Chase Cardin, and Grady Burton; sister-in-law Dora Seay, niece Stuart (David) Rish, great-nephew David, and great-niece Mikayla Rish.
A funeral service celebrating Nellene’s life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday May 27, 2017, at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley, North Carolina with visitation 1:30 PM ~ 2:45 PM prior to the service. The Reverend Tim Beam will officiate. Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
