Carol (Benninger) Wentz, 77, of Stanley and formerly of Belmont passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, NC. Carol was born February 21, 1946 in Hazleton, PA to the late Geneva (Bellazza) Benninger and Earl K. Benninger. Carol moved to Gaston County as a young child and she always considered Gaston County her home. Carol was a faithful Christian woman. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Carol was known for accepting everyone. She did not care who they were. She always showed love to them. Carol loved life and she herself was full of life. She loved to travel with her husband, Harry. She had a significant impact on many people’s lives and she will leave a large void in the heart of her family, friends and church. She is dearly missed.
Left to cherish their memories of Carol and to carry on her legacy are her husband of 58 years, Harry P. Wentz and their two children. She leaves behind her daughter, Lisa (Wentz) Hill and her husband Ron Hill of Dallas, NC and her son, Stephen P. Wentz and his husband Antoine Clark of Waxhaw, NC. Missing their grandmother are her two grandchildren, Courtney Long and her husband Jonathan Long and Cody Klein. Her legacy includes one great-grandson, Xane Long.
A service celebrating Carol’s life will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2:30 pm at Carothers Funeral Home, 412 South Main Street, Stanley, NC. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Carol will be buried at Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly immediately following the funeral service. Reverend Tripp Hoard will officiate and offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends that gather to remember Carol.
