She was born on January 15th in New Rochelle, NY to Florence and Vincent Zaffino. She graduated with a degree in Biology from the College of New Rochelle. She married Patrick Grosso shortly after graduation and moved to Stamford, CT. There, she had three children and was a devoted wife and mother. She also was an active community leader and entrepreneur.
She managed her own business, Riverview Business Services, which provided finance and accounting services to several clients, including Image Graphics, the company founded by her husband.
She was actively involved in Democratic politics in Stamford, as a long time precinct captain, a frequent campaign treasurer, and a regular delegate to the state Democratic Convention. Well regarded for her integrity and effectiveness, she led the Stamford Democratic Party Appointments Committee for many years working with mayors from both parties to place strong members across Stamford’s numerous volunteer boards and commissions.
Eventually, she left the Appointments Committee to take a seat on Stamford’s Planning Board. She served on the Board for ten years, including several as the Board’s secretary. In addition, she was an active board member of Stamford Domestic Violence Services, serving as President between 1992 and 1994. She also was an active volunteer in the Stamford Public Schools, working on everything from media center operations to school redistricting committees.
Most importantly, she was dedicated to her family. Her husband pre-deceased her in 2007. She is survived by her mother, her brother Joseph Zaffino and sister in law Gail Smith of Greenwich, CT, and six children and in-laws – Gail Grosso and Richard Hofmann of Stamford, Maureen and John Grosso of Stamford, and Valerie and Chris Grosso of New York. She is also survived by 8 loving grand children, Michael and Matthew Hofmann, John, Katherine, Elizabeth, and James Grosso, and Madeleine and Clara Grosso.
Visitation hours will be from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm on Friday, October 12th at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home in Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10AM on Saturday October 13th at St. Leo’s Church in Stamford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Brain Tumor Society (braintumor.org).
