Philip E. Norgren, 73, died on Tuesday, August 30th 2011 after battling cancer for over a year. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Fayle Norgren of Bridgeport, CT, his son, Erik of Stamford, CT, his son and daugthter-in-law, Nils and Kim Norgren of Norfolk, MA, and his daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Sean Mahon of Orange, CT, as well as his grandchildren, Nicholas, Jack and Chris Norgren and Grace and Lance Mahon. Phil is also survived by his brothers, Joel and Ralph Norgren, his sister, Avis Light, as well as their spouses and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Elna Norgren.Phil was born in Worcester, MA but lived in Stamford, CT from 1949 until 2002, when he and Jane moved to Bridgeport, CT. A graduate of MIT and University of Colorado, Boulder, Phil was an electrical engineer for Perkin Elmer for the majority of his professional life. Upon retirement, Phil worked for the City of Stamford and served the WPCA in Stamford and Bridgeport. He was very involved in numerous philanthropic and civic organizations, including the United Way, Rotary International, ARI, Inc., and The Council of Churches and Synagogues for both Stamford and Bridgeport. Phil was also a board member of Pro Arte Singers for many years as well as a devoted member of the UCC both in Stamford and Bridgeport. Phil was a renaissance man with many varied interests, including reading, singing, travel, sailing, and fixing things. His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends in Vermont.Arrangements are being made through Leo Gallagher Funeral Home in Stamford. Calling hours will be on Thursday, September 8th from 4-8 pm at Leo Gallagher & Son Funeral Home 2900 Summer St Stamford, CT. A memorial service will be held at the North Stamford Congregational Church 31 Cascade Road Stamford, CT on Friday, September 9th, at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phil’s memory to Rotary International, ARI, Inc., The International Institute or Fairfield County Community Foundation.
