Born in New York, NY, and raised in Manhattan and the Bronx, she was the daughter of William and Theresa Quinn. She graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School, received a Bachelor of Arts in history from Good Counsel College, a Master of Arts in education from Fairfield University, and a Sixth Year Certificate from the University of Bridgeport. Maryann began her 52 year teaching career in 1968 at Holy Spirit School in the Bronx before moving to Stamford, which became her lifelong home. After a brief stint at St. Cecilia’s School, Maryann became an 8th grade Social Studies teacher in Stamford Public Schools, teaching at Cloonan, Dolan, and Rippowam Middle Schools before retiring in 2020.
Maryann served Stamford’s students and aspiring teachers in various roles, including as a BEST mentor, through Junior Achievement, and on multiple citywide curriculum committees for History and Social Studies. Maryann was a proud supporter of the Connecticut and National History Day programs, coaching her students to award-winning historical presentations and research at the local, regional, state, and national History Day competitions. She also served as a member of the Bruce Museum’s Teacher’s Advisory Council.
Maryann is survived by her daughter Terese, her son Matthew and his wife Jenna, and her granddaughter Madeleine.
Friends are invited to calling hours on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 3:00-5:00 pm, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905. A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT 06905.
